Motion to Have Some MUN Fun! Nov 24, 2013

Decorum Wildcats! The WOSS Model United Nations club is back up and running this year with over 40 delegates eager to begin addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues through constructive debate.

With countries ranging from the USA, Syria, the UK and Niger, there’s a position on this club for everyone. Students have the opportunity to engage in debates and resolution writing on a weekly basis during the relaxed meetings run by the club’s grade twelve co-presidents: Carey Roach, Meagan Miranda and Moe Sewedy.

“I first started Model UN because I’m very interested in international relations and so far it’s been a really great experience.” says Carey Roach, who has attended 2 official UofT conferences to date. “Students really get a chance to learn more about global politics and how to rock business attire,” she jokes. “We have such high expectations for our group this year.”

‘What’s in store for this club?’ you might ask. As of now, two conferences in Toronto are being prepared for as well as some more fun things around the corner so stay tuned!

“Model UN has opened my mind to different perspectives on everything! Having been a part of Debate as well, I can honestly say that Model UN is extremely different.” says Yusra, a grade 12 delegate. “Discussion is open up to the motions of everyone participating which is the main difference that I enjoy. It’s really run by the students debating.”

Being one of the presidents of MUN myself, I may be slightly biased but you’ll just have to join the club to find out! Come out to WOSS Model UN on Monday’s after school in A202 if you’re looking to enter some un-moderated caucus!
