Pages to the Movie Screen: Divergent Oct 03, 2013

Fans of the sci-fi, dystopian YA novel “Divergent” by Veronica Roth are on the edge of their seats these days. And no, not only because the final book in the trilogy is coming on shelves October 22nd,  fans are most excited to see Veronica Roth’s “Divergent” on the big screen next year March 21st. The cast of the highly anticipated movie has already been chosen and actors are in the process of filming in Chicago now. Chicago will be making $30M and adding 1,000 jobs from “Divergent” filming.

The novel “Divergent” by Veronica Roth is a thrilling adventure set in a future and dystopian world where people are divided into five distinct factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue – Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives to. Beatrice (Tris) Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

“Divergent” has recently been compared to other science fiction and dystopian novels like Suzanne Collin’s “The Hunger Games”, Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight”, and Cassandra Claire’s “City of Bones”. All of these YA novels have also been adapted into big-hit movies and “Divergent” is next in line. Many people have reviewed that “Divergent” is a better novel than the rest which is why fans are so enthused for the movie to hit big screens in 2D IMAX March 2014. Although, others think that the casting of the movie were not good choices and that the movie may just ‘ruin’ the book like with many other books that have been turned into a movie. Everyone will just have to wait five more months to find out. So, are you going to go watch?
